Reduce Gambling Addiction is a resource to inform and help people concerned about the adverse effects of gambling.

Betting Shops

We have been unable to establish whether betting shops are being monitored for compliance with statutory regulations and Association of British Bookmakers Ltd (ABB) Codes of Practice for licensed betting offices.

We are following this up with ABB and the Gaming Board for Great Britain. We are visiting local betting shops to observe their compliance and reporting non-compliance to ABB and the Gaming Board.

It would be helpful to have people throughout the country checking their local betting shops.

Fixed Odds Betting Terminals

An addicted gambler says, “FOBTs are the crack cocaine of gambling.”
GamCare identifies a rising trend in calls asking for help on FOBTs; increasing from a few calls per month in early 2003 to between 40 and 50 calls a month in 2004. (see reference in details)

We believe these are too highly addictive to be easily accessible in High Street betting shops. We have written to the Gaming Board about this. If you would like to do the same, click here for details
